Response to Spending Review - "We can only unlock the scale of investment needed in our NHS with private capital

Responding to the Spending Review, Lord Hutton, the former cabinet minister who now chairs the Association of Infrastructure Investors in Public Private Partnerships, (AIIP) said:

“The Chancellor’s commitment to invest in the NHS and critical national infrastructure is welcome news. However, we can only unlock the scale of investment to build hospitals and health centres with private capital.

“England is one of the few countries in the developed world that doesn’t use public private partnerships to build new schools and hospitals and transport, which are typically on time and on budget. There’s an opportunity to change that in the Government’s upcoming Infrastructure Strategy and get Britain building again. That would enable a dialogue between government and investors to learn the lessons from past UK PPPs, directly address the complexities of the model and ensure value for money.”
