27 new Neighbourhood Health Centres announced
Very positive news: AIIP welcomes the first wave of 27 Neighbourhood Health Centres that have been announced by the Department of Health and Social Care.
The 27 centres will be open by 2027 and are the first of 50 neighbourhood health centres backed by a total of £200 million in government investment to upgrade existing buildings.
Some of our members will be involved in delivering those buildings as part of the LIFT programme, which delivers community health in areas of England with some of the highest levels of deprivation.
The neighbourhood health centre model—bringing together extended opening hours and a wide range of services in one place—signals an important move toward more responsive, preventative, and accessible care rooted within local communities.
“We welcome the announcement today from the Department of Health and Social Care confirming the rollout of the first 27 neighbourhood health centres as part of its 10 Year Health Plan, which includes 7 buildings within our existing LIFT portfolio. We look forward to facilitating these schemes to repurpose and enhance existing assets, and the announcement underlines the vital role for the LIFT estate as an enabler for community-based care models.” Said Peter Harding, Head of Social Infrastructure at Equitix - an AIIP member.
Yesterday’s announcement represents the first stage of a broader plan to establish 250 neighbourhood health centres by 2036, including 120 set to open by 2030. We’re proud to be supporting this ambition for a fairer, more community-focused healthcare system.
